I must say, the Spotify logo font looks ever so slightly heavier in weight than the original Gotham medium. Also the “f” to “y” way fully connected as a ligature. Gotham is a typeface designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in 2000, and it takes inspiration from the architectural signage seen in New York City. With these criteria in mind, the design team chose Gotham as a starting point. As a result, they wanted a clean, simple, geometric typeface that is also round and friendly. According to Lead Designer, Andreas Holmström, selecting a font to base the logo on, was all about communicating the new brand positioning easy, personal, and fun. The Spotify logo redesign was part of a greater brand refresh, where font selection was key. This font was designed by Andreas Holmström (Lead Designer), and Christian Wilsson (Creative Director). Circular comes in five weights, with italic variants. The font Spotify uses is called Spotify Circular, which is a tweaked version of Gotham.
